Surviving Constipation With Success
-
If you’re ill with a sudden bout of constipation you may instinctively grab an over-the-counter medication. However, is it really best to do this? Honestly, your suffering with constipation may be a way your body wants to tell you there is another underlying health issue you may want to see a medical professional about. Of course, it could also be that the constipation could be avoided by analyzing your diet, instead of only treating your symptoms.Choosing not to look into the cause of constipation can make your condition worse. Over-the-counter treatment can cause your present digestive system disorder to get worse and may even destroy your gastrointestinal tract! In other words, regularly using medications to “cure” your constipation can make your digestive tract begin requiring artificial stimuli each time it needs to void.
For starters, look at what you eat each day. Do you regularly eat a healthy and balanced diet including the important proteins and carbohydrates? Are you engaging in a fad diet that is causing your nutritional intake to be off balance in the carbohydrate or protein area of your eating habits? The most common culprit of constipation is either a nutritional deficiency or a lack of fiber.
If your food intake is a bit suspect, begin by cutting out the obvious suspects such as junk food and fast food. Next, be sure to fight your constipation by increasing your fiber intake. Do this naturally by adding a couple of servings of veggies to your diet or by supplementing fiber wafers and prune juice.
The next step for ferreting out the cause of your constipation should be a close look at your eating habit. Meals should be leisurely occasions where you take the time to enjoy the food and chew it while supplementing the moisture in your intestines with water. If you find yourself eating on the run, in your car, while at your desk, chewing only a little and quickly swallowing, and foregoing water in favor of sodas, you most likely are impairing your body’s ability to properly digest the food.
The process of digestion starts in the mouth and when the saliva puts digestive enzymes into the food, whatever you eat is prepared properly for stomach entry. If the process is not properly done and the food is not prepared for the nutrient intake taking place further in the process, the digestive system is not at its peak advantage. If this occurs often, it only seems logical constipation will occur.
If you’re on medications or take nutritional supplements, even if you do the right thing with your diet you may still have an ill functioning digestive system. It’s best to ensure your medications or vitamins are not expired. Of course, you can also choose to take them with prune juice, to stimulate digestion.
Lastly, stress can be a big cause of the digestive system malfunctioning. Since you can’t fully reduce your life stress; you can instead cope with stress in healthy ways. By being healthier with your stress, its impact will be lessened on your body and on gastrointestinal tract. It’s quite effective to use yoga, meditation and breathing exercises to reduce stress.
